Forest road 250 Colorado

I was alone in Colorado and desperate to hit the trails. My guidebook had all the usual tourist crazy areas around Silverton and Ouray. This area is known as probably the best in the USA for outdoor motorcycle adventure. But I had my eye on getting to Summitville. Summitville is the site of Colorado’s worst eco mining disaster. The EPA even built a water processing plant on top of the 12k foot mountain. I wanted to go find it. So down my road and west on 160 into Pagosa springs for gas and through to Wolf Pass. A breath-taking ride up and over the stunning mountain. The road is full of turns and hairpins and bike nirvana. It’s wide and easy to pass the huge dinosaur motor homes being towed by pick up trucks.  I’m sure if the truck could communicate, it would be shouting at its owner ”Why would you leave your suburban mansion and tow a suburban mansion across the country to park it in a suburban trailer park, with all the same suburbanites, what the fuck...

Cheat Death

The Rand Easter Show, is a huge consumer exhibition, where thousands of exhibitors from all over the world would come to Johannesburg to trade, it was in fact the largest show of it’s kind in the world outside of the US for a long time through the 60's and 70's. I must have been six or seven years old, when my Dad and I went to the Rand Easter Show, I must have been that age because it was just the two of us, which meant my brother’s were still to young to come along. My farther had been sent by his boss to take a look at some German machinery that was on exhibition, or something like that, because my Dad wasn’t the kind of guy to go without having to be prodded with a stick, of course for me, it was going to be great, because as a kid the only attraction was the Fair Grounds. The Fair Ground was huge, with Rollercoaster, Octopus and all sorts of rides, there were games of skill where you could win stuff and candy vendors, and tucked away in a corner there it was thi...

Hyper

I am annoyed and bored, it's been 4 weeks and my lungs are still not cleared up yet, the constant coughing literally wakes me at night hence this blog. My girl is up to some things, and like any good man, I support her in any endeavor, I would do just about anything to see her succeed. I am just amazed at what is transpiring through the process though, it seems that the same politics and bullshit that exists in the tattoo industry is prevalent everywhere else. There seems to be a veiled anger at others success, and a need to be obstructive to ensure that they don't succeed, I just don't get it, then again, I just don't seem to get people at all, I am surrounded by some of the most awesome people and I feel loved and appreciated, hell even respected in some quarters, but there are always those few, the ones that smile in their lips but not their eyes. Then there are the down right assholes, and they know exactly who they are so the less said about them the better. So h...

Outside

I was going through some pics on Facebook that my girl had uploaded to my page, and just looking at the comments, one just struck me. The photo is of me tattooing Ann Jangle’s thigh, the comment “Do you realise they are forever”? My immediate reaction is, no asshole, we leap into permanent body beautification without any forethought, your generation have cornered the market on what is good and what is bad, and we are stupid mindless children, that without you stating the obvious we would never have thought it. I then calmed down, and started wondering why would someone feel the need to voice such a stupid opinion and put his name to it? It’s not like we want your golf and country clubs, your socialite gatherings where blowing wind up each others asses is the order of the day. So what is it? Is it fear of a world waking up to your narrow-minded views and not buying into them? Or is it just that your life has passed by like a speeding train governed by bullshit, convention and socia...

Know it all...

I'm so bored with it all. I check the wires for some news on the world, and all I read these days bitching, jeez a little positivity some times would be nice, perhaps I should hang around a better bunch of people...lol I find it funny however that those bitching and complaining are always the ones who shouldn't, hey and in this, I will own it too, cause it did make me pause a long while before I wrote this. I'm just so tired of the stupid infighting and back stabbing going on in all fields, how no one can just shut up if you have nothing good to say, and don't mask it in constructive criticism, because you need the right credentials to get on that soap box. It's said that to understand the man you need to walk a mile in his shoes, well in my humble opinion, before you criticise the man you should be running an ultra-marathon in his shoes, so before you go shooting your mouth off about how bad that artist is and how bad that band is, or how ugly that girl i...

The Wolf

This is a story about a wolf, a beautiful black and grey timber wolf, young and lithe, nothing noble, just scrapping for his meat in the pack. Having left his clan he needed to find his own place in the world, a contest with the alpha male had defeated the old male, but the sight and the look in the old man’s eyes had turned his ferocious heart and with that he left, it was time to walk the path alone. He wandered the forests, constantly wary of the encroach of man, steering clear of them, he hunted alone, times were more and more often lean, and from time to time he would drift closer to the encampments, scrounging and scavenging scraps. There were times when there were great finds, a chicken left unwatched, a pie left to cool and he would sneak in, and take off without anyone knowing better, well until dinner time of course. Then times would be really bad and he would pick through leftovers, running a lot of risk at being caught, or worse, shot. Time passed and being alone w...

Six of the best.....Yeoooow!!!

So many months ago, a good friend requested 4 songs on her radio station, I can't remember the reason, and so I did, but my response was "Wow that's hard to narrow down, how about 4 bands beginning with the word Black?" Obviously this went down well, so I started sending her, every week for her show, 5 artist I liked beginning with each letter of the alphabet. What you have here is a slightly expanded version, these are 6 of my favourite artists  and songs per letter, I hope you will take the time to give each a listen, and enjoy them as much as I do. AC/DC - Jailbreak Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like A Lady Al Green - Lets Stay Together Alvin Lee & Ten Years After - The Stomp The Atomic Fireballs - Pango Pango The Animals - Story Of Bo Diddley The Band - When I Paint My Masterpiece Bo Diddley -  Hey! Bo Diddley The Black Angels - Sniper at the Gates Of Heaven The Black Keys - Phychotic Girl The Black Crowes - Remedy BB King - The Thrill Is...

Neighbour

Yesterday morning I was woken, well not woken exactly, my neighbour incessant knocking dragged me me downstairs as her car would not start. Her name is "Alleluia" and it's Angolan, and nothing to do with Leonard Cohen, and even if it did, I would say it was due to Jeff Buckley as the Cohen original just isn't my bag at all, but I'm off on a tangent again. I went out to help, and after fining that she had asked, and no one had jumper cables, I said to her do you know how to jump start a car? Four pushes up and down the road proved she didn't and as I was close to a heart attack, I stopped. I asked her if she had spoken to the other neighbours? she hadn't so I did and eventually found some jumper cables. This got me thinking, a few years ago when I still lived in Johannesburg, in an affluent suburb called Northcliff, I remember always feeling under siege while there, we where shocked by what appeared to be the random shooting of a 16 year old school girl in...

Beauty Dish

It's been a few weeks since I wrote something, and I guess you could say I been content, but you know you would be wrong... I just have been giving to much energy to the shit surrounding me that I just haven't taken the time to write. Things have been weird, I mean really weird, people getting possessive about fuck all, and taking up my space and time, not to mention the constant freeloaders, I just had to eventually make myself heard, and so some are pissed at me, but I really don't give a continental shit. I have been doing some cool work of late and have some great projects besides the 3 new t shirt designs, I have been doing some really nice tattoos. Every morning for 2 weeks I'm woken by a baby crying in the car park across the street, firstly why is this mother bringing her child with to sit in a car park all day? Secondly why is it constantly crying? I need to find out what is going on, and call child protection services. Jeez I have so much to b...
