WHY I LIKE GUY

A while ago I watched a program on the TV about the WWII a British veteran spoke about the Blitz on London and how devastating it was and what people suffered through a how the British spirit kept them going through. Veteran RAF pilot now long gone spoke of how at 18 years old they fought the Hun in the skies above and so many died. I was reminded of another great hero of mine, Sir Earnest Shackleton and his voyage to Antartica with his “Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition” (1914-17) He and his team would be the first to traverse the continent from Vahsel Bay to McMurdo Sound on the opposite side, on the 19th of January 1915 their ship got trapped, frozen in an ice floe. Being forced to wait till spring the crew turned the ship into a winter station but in spring as the ice melted, the pressures of the moving ice finally sank the Endurance, forcing the men onto an ice floe, but to cut a long story short, they would march to Elephant Island dragging 3 life boats over the ice until they...

Ageist condescending twats

Today you get a rant, no, it's been a while but it's time for to get something off my chest. I am sick an tired of posts on my feeds of older tattooed people that have lines saying "How cool is Grandad"  or "How awesome is this tattooed sixty year old woman" Well go fuck yourself, older people don't need you to tell them they are awesome, they see it in the mirror everyday and have done so a lot longer  than you, your reaffirmation says more about your lack of gumption than it does about them. While I'm at it we were cool before you were conceived, the only reason you think anything is cool, is cause we taught you what cool is. As for being tattooed, we got tattooed way before it was cool and before the discovery channel and those twats made you think it was a good idea. So give us a break you ageist condescending twat, and show a little respect for your elders. I feel love though...

Great Champions!!!!

Jorge is a twat, no if's, and's or buts the guys a arrogant prick. Great champions are talented and charismatic, Rossi, Marques are Lorenzo will be easily forgotten, the events of qualifying Misano yesterday just prove my point. There is no guarantee that Rossi will win his his 10th world championship, but if he does he will most certainly be the most popular with fans and other riders. I love Valentino, I'm Italian, why would I not, but it goes beyond that, it goes to the charm and character of the man, and only time will tell if anyone will ever come close.

Your Gang, my clique, your set...

I have been alarmed, bemused and a little caught a little off guard by the actions of some friends, I won't mention who, but it seems that a need to belong has taken up residence in their psyche, and though I know it's common, I don't get it. As a tattooer, I have spent a lot of my time convincing people to do things that are tailor made for them, individual, something unique, as unique as they themselves are. I do need to now say that just because you chose not to do so does not lessen you or your experience, I just felt that when the time came for something as exciting as getting tattooed, you might want to consider something all your own, something that spoke of your individuality as a person. This in time unfortunately, early on in my career been misinterpreted as me being exclusive and given rise to rumor that I'm a self entitled ass, and in now what is a very competitive industry, I can see how this is easily believed by those that have chosen not to do justice ...

Golden Brown

"Golden Brown" The BMW R100rs complete and strutting her stuff. Thanks go to the photographer Devin Paisley for doing this first shoot. Beautiful and elegant by day but a prowling tiger at night. What an addiction

A man should be sufficient for himself.

Tell me, just tell what seems to be the point? Why do people that are freaking assholes, who are users and takers always seem to get ahead, and those that take the time to help and support never do?  Is the climbing over the next persons corpse really the only way of getting ahead? Does pushing in-front of a good friend to get something before them make you great, or better or happier? A man should be sufficient for himself, and when that falls out of balance we end up like this, when we are constantly told by all and everyone around us that you are not enough, will never be enough, never have enough, we will always want and need for more and never ever be sufficient for oneself. Perhaps it's time to believe you are where you should be, and that the time wasted chasing what other deem to be enough is time wasted. That useless pursuit, isn't what makes you whole but the belief that you are who you are meant to be, and that fucking others over empties you and by doing so y...

How To:

It seems speaking to a lot of people about Crowd Funding, that I am finding that a good 90% don't really get how it works, so here is my best attempt at explaining and once done hoping that you will contribute to our project, so here goes. The concept is simple at it's very kernel, someone wants to do, build, develop or create something, they need funds, so they ask everyone they can to please contribute financially to help achieve the goal. Sounds a lot like begging, I know, but sometimes doing something needs a vision beyond the usual avenues and institutions and in this, needs supportive people of that vision to get behind it and make it come to fruition. Ok so lets get into some details, these Crowd Funds are hosted by several sites, Kickstarter, Thundafund and the one we are using Indiegogo, to name a few, each has certain criteria and I am not going to get into each one as they differ slightly from one another. generally they set up and host your campaign, they set up ...

Cheat Death

The Rand Easter Show, is a huge consumer exhibition, where thousands of exhibitors from all over the world would come to Johannesburg to trade, it was in fact the largest show of it’s kind in the world outside of the US for a long time through the 60's and 70's. I must have been six or seven years old, when my Dad and I went to the Rand Easter Show, I must have been that age because it was just the two of us, which meant my brother’s were still to young to come along. My farther had been sent by his boss to take a look at some German machinery that was on exhibition, or something like that, because my Dad wasn’t the kind of guy to go without having to be prodded with a stick, of course for me, it was going to be great, because as a kid the only attraction was the Fair Grounds. The Fair Ground was huge, with Rollercoaster, Octopus and all sorts of rides, there were games of skill where you could win stuff and candy vendors, and tucked away in a corner there it was thi...

The Wolf

This is a story about a wolf, a beautiful black and grey timber wolf, young and lithe, nothing noble, just scrapping for his meat in the pack. Having left his clan he needed to find his own place in the world, a contest with the alpha male had defeated the old male, but the sight and the look in the old man’s eyes had turned his ferocious heart and with that he left, it was time to walk the path alone. He wandered the forests, constantly wary of the encroach of man, steering clear of them, he hunted alone, times were more and more often lean, and from time to time he would drift closer to the encampments, scrounging and scavenging scraps. There were times when there were great finds, a chicken left unwatched, a pie left to cool and he would sneak in, and take off without anyone knowing better, well until dinner time of course. Then times would be really bad and he would pick through leftovers, running a lot of risk at being caught, or worse, shot. Time passed and being alone w...

Depressed

I feel depressed today, infact the malaise has followed me most of the week like a turd stuck to the bottom of my shoe, no matter how hard you get rid of it, you can always smell it there. Today we bury Nelson Mandela, I don't call him Tata, or any other term of endearment, I never met him, or had selfies done with him, or even got close to him, but if you live in South Africa, you sure have felt his presence. It's sad cause I don't mourn the man, as I know that as one, he had he's shortcoming as we all do, but the passing of a way of thinking and behaving, the passing of menchkite. I feel that people can be judged by the way they treat those unable to protect themselves, and if anyone stood for those most in need, he did, but that's not why I'm depressed, I'm depressed that after such a great example, we have learnt sweet fuck all. When last did you reach out to someone or something in need, done something selfless? When last did you not put yourself, or...

I...

On the 12th of the month, I made a purchase at the IStore in Canal Walk, went home wasn't happy with what I had done, without opening my purchase I went back the 13th and returned it for a refund. Pretty simple right????? well the R4599-00 leaves your account the very moment of purchase, that is a fact, but returning it, well....... that takes a little longer. You would be very wrong in assuming that it would be returned as quickly, but by a week later, I still had not been refunded. So off I go to the bank, get a statement which I am charge R11-00 for a cost that also leaves my account instantly I might add, and ask the simple question "Where is my money?". I am told that the bank has nothing to do with this, the IStore has to refund this money and if it's not in my account, it's still with them, well that makes perfect sense, so with all my documentation, I'm off to the IStore. Now the fun and games begin, the first thing I do is ask for the manager, who ...

Wow... Crazy stuff

What a past couple of months... things have been all crazy with so much going on some really great, but some really bad the worst of which has been my baby girl Laika, has had to have a huge growth from her anal canal removed, the surgery went well and she is home now even though very uncomfortable. It has just made me so aware again of how fragile life is, and just how much a part of me little Laika is, I have had a few dogs, and each very special, but Laika, she some how is "that" dog. Now we hope to have her recover well and heal well. The other is a friends heart attack, though mild, a physically fit and healthy guy, younger than I, and just like that, it happened, it is just so crazy, the message caught me so by surprise at first I found the whole thing hard to believe, but fortunately it's under control and he's going to be fine. On the positive side, I have finally done what I said I was going to do for quite some time, and I have opened a studio the way I ...

Forever

It comes as no surprise that nothing, and I mean nothing at all, lasts forever, your health, friendships, relationships, your pets, your life, forever isn't really forever, not even this planet will last forever. So why is it that people still today expect to be together forever? in an existence where everything is transient, why is it we labour under the delusion that it all has to last forever? I met a beautiful young woman the other day, recently divorced, and in pretty bad shape as she struggled with the fact that her marriage had ended. I felt for her, I really did, you could see she was hurting at the fact that it was over, yet you knew it was going to end eventually, one way or another, so why is it we have this unrealistic expectation? I personally, and this is a personal opinion, take it leave it, it really doesn't matter, believe it's the fault of the church, this belief in everlasting life, and that we go to a better place, and that faith is what's needed to...

Neighbour

Yesterday morning I was woken, well not woken exactly, my neighbour incessant knocking dragged me me downstairs as her car would not start. Her name is "Alleluia" and it's Angolan, and nothing to do with Leonard Cohen, and even if it did, I would say it was due to Jeff Buckley as the Cohen original just isn't my bag at all, but I'm off on a tangent again. I went out to help, and after fining that she had asked, and no one had jumper cables, I said to her do you know how to jump start a car? Four pushes up and down the road proved she didn't and as I was close to a heart attack, I stopped. I asked her if she had spoken to the other neighbours? she hadn't so I did and eventually found some jumper cables. This got me thinking, a few years ago when I still lived in Johannesburg, in an affluent suburb called Northcliff, I remember always feeling under siege while there, we where shocked by what appeared to be the random shooting of a 16 year old school girl in...

Beauty Dish

It's been a few weeks since I wrote something, and I guess you could say I been content, but you know you would be wrong... I just have been giving to much energy to the shit surrounding me that I just haven't taken the time to write. Things have been weird, I mean really weird, people getting possessive about fuck all, and taking up my space and time, not to mention the constant freeloaders, I just had to eventually make myself heard, and so some are pissed at me, but I really don't give a continental shit. I have been doing some cool work of late and have some great projects besides the 3 new t shirt designs, I have been doing some really nice tattoos. Every morning for 2 weeks I'm woken by a baby crying in the car park across the street, firstly why is this mother bringing her child with to sit in a car park all day? Secondly why is it constantly crying? I need to find out what is going on, and call child protection services. Jeez I have so much to b...

Assumption the mother of all fuck ups

1  a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to  happen ,  without proof :  they made certain assumptions  about   the  market  |  [ with  clause  ]  :  we ' re working   on   the   assumption   that  the time of death was after  midnight . I was amused at assumptions made by what I had posted, and it came to mind that people making assumptions say a hell of a lot more about themselves and there characters and motives. Assumptions are made without fact, or proof, so already this sets the scene for disaster,  assumptions are just mere mental conjectures that do not thrive on reason ability and are therefor, questionable. An extreme and overt reaction, made by some one on an assumption, says something very clear about them, the reaction is that the issue pertains to them in some way, (the assumption) but if it didn't then that extreme reaction only underscores the guild or involvem...

Convention Time

Wednesday evening, and I seem to be feeling a better, the post convention blues have passed, I am going to mention Hymne’s passing, Tuesday was the 2 nd anniversary of her passing and as expected, coping isn’t easy, but I focus on the love she gave me and our time together. The convention was as usual, busy, as I am booked up well in advance with clients who come down from up country, and I do try accommodating them, as they do not get the opportunity often. I do however feel that the convention this year was not very well attended, by artists as well as tattoo enthusiasts. The recession I guess is felt by all this year, and with that in mind, I’m always surprised by the lack of marketing done by the organizers. A simple sign outside of the building I don’t believe is too much to expect. Having said that though, I really enjoyed this years. My convention weekend began with the arrival of my great friends Rob and his gorgeous wife Michelle, on Wednesday morning, we hustled back...
