Self-Serving

I am always amazed at some things I see and hear. It’s all so stupid and pathetic, Charles Bukowski “We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorised and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.” And that is such a simple yet valuable insight, we draw lines in the sand at such strange and crazy places and I just don’t understand, well I didn’t want to understand because like everyone else, I am guilty of it too. I was made aware of a friend being admonished by others for enjoying a burlesque performance, yet those very same people drink, and drug up and fuck each other over at the drop of a hat, so I guess that line is drawn there… how weird??? So it’s ok to do some stuff and not others…? You see now I need an explanation of just how this table of, what one should like and appreciate and what one shouldn’t like and appreciate, really works. Is it a points system? Do you get plus or minus points, cause I need a starting point, no really I want to know. Maybe there is a calibration from hot to cold? So fucking your boyfriend’s best friend is cold, ok…?, yet a steamy performance by a dancer is hotttt and therefore not ok? Jesus I’m confused, the puritan in me says lets burn all these loose women, kill all the alcoholics and junkies, gas the retarded, napalm the adulterers, and by the time we have taken splinter out of everyone else’s eye, we have no eyes left for all the forest. The truth for me lies in who said what, and who draws the line and where. I posted before, that what you choose as an opinion, says more about you than it does your standpoint, and perhaps your opinion is purely you just angling at a self-serving need, fuck perhaps, that’s exactly what we all do, because as Bukowski put it we are terrorised and flattened by trivialities, and those lines drawn in the sand are just that, egotistical paradigms of self-serving bullshit.

Am I guilty of the above? All the time, but I do try to be aware. Think about it, don’t think about it… that’s up to you, but self service and self-protection aren’t the only way to live, you could just love and support.

A little this and that

It’s been a while since my last post, but I’m not going to bore you with bullshit post every second day. I have been meaning to get some stuff out, but have refrained, but some stuff just has to come out. Firstly, I have plugged a restaurant called “Orinoco” in Bree street, great value and authentic South American food, I’m afraid to say, no longer, I took Nicci for dinner and two ridiculous portions of poorly cooked food, cost over R480-00, I’m sorry, but that’s just retarded, and had the food been of an epic standard, it would not have pissed me off so much, but this is just fucked up. I complained to the owner, and the best she could do was shrug her shoulders, well that’s blown it for me, they certainly will not see me there again, and I would suggest you stay away too. It is just amazing how the odd little magazine article and a little plug here and there can give people such an attitude, Bob said it best, “Be good to the people you meet on the way up, cause you’re b...

Service

service  |ˈsərvis| noun 1  the action of helping or doing work for someone :  millions are involved in voluntary service . •  an act of assistance :  he has done us a great service  |  hevolunteered his services as a driver . •  assistance or advice given to customers during and afterthe sale of goods :  they aim to provide better quality of service . •  the action or process of serving food and drinks to customers:  they complained of poor bar service . What has happened to it? It seems that service is a thing of the past, that as consumers we have no right to decent service, let alone GOOD service. It seems that people who own, or work within a store feel like they are doing you a favor, like dude, you are taking up valuable time they could be spending doing.... what?  For fuck sake, this is your job! Your chosen profession!  I r...

Love and Happiness

At this time of year when everyone is reminded that being a human being is being kind and loving, forgiving and tolerant, I feel that it's all bullshit, this is not a state for the holidays, this should be a constant state and something we should strive towards in our everyday lives. I blogged about being a "mensch" and perhaps it's good to remind ourselves what it means to be one. what follows is that blog A while ago I mentioned being a “mensch” and I was not really clear on what it means. A good friend and client brought this in for me, it’s part of an article written by Charlotte Cohen, and it sums it up well. What is a honourable mensch It is a voice, and the understanding behind it. It is the eyes, and the intelligence behind them. It is the recognition that support is needed, and asked for, giving it And the kindness that lies behind all of that. It’s keeping quiet when one ought and speaking when one should and knowing the difference. It’s giving pr...
